The Towers of Prague

Some of the most beautiful and unique old buildings in Prague are the gateway towers. The Old Town Bridge Tower, the Powder Tower, and the Lesser Town Bridge Towers are the most iconic examples, among many other towers with the same design. Anywhere else I’ve been in Europe, I’ve never seen such a unique design that symbolizes the city of Prague.

Built around the fourteen century, these towers were built to symbolize victory gateways where the kings and emperors would go through when they were coronated. The Old Town Bridge Tower, and the taller tower of the Lesser Town Bridge towers, each at one edge of the Charles Bridge, are considered one of the most beautiful gothic styles in the whole world in terms of gateway designs.

Even after visiting Prague many times and walking by the towers many times during my visit, I still haven’t taken the opportunity to go up in the towers. On my bucket list for my next visit, I plan on climbing the 138 steps to the viewing gallery of the Old Town Bridge Tower. I have heard that the view is unforgettable.
