I think most people in the world have already seen the Eiffel tower in Paris either in person or in picture. If these people got the chance to see the Petrin Tower in person or in picture and wondered if Petrin Tower is sort of a replica of the Eiffel Tower, the answer is yes.
The Petrin Tower is a 63.5-meter tall (208.3 feet) observation tower located on Petrin Hill in Prague. The tower was built in 1891 and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was opened to the public only two years after The Eiffel Tower was opened.
The tower is made of steel and has 299 steps leading to the top. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of Prague’s Old Town, Castle District, and Vltava River. There is also an elevator available for those who prefer not to climb the stairs.
In addition to its observation deck, the Petrin Tower also features a small museum on the history of the tower and its construction. Visitors can also enjoy a snack or drink at the tower’s restaurant, which offers a selection of Czech cuisine.
The Petrin Tower is a popular tourist attraction in Prague and is often included in city sightseeing tours. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the summer months and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter months.
Walking along the shore of the Vltava River and looking toward the Petrin Hills, the top of the Petrin Tower is visible from the distance standing tall in the midst of the abundance of trees of the Petrin Hills.
For several of my first visits to Prague, I didn’t take the time to go up the hills to investigate what the tower looked like from a close distance. I waited for the right time. It seemed mysterious, the way it was hiding in the middle of trees on Petrin Hills. I wanted to wait for that day when I felt I had that investigative desire for discovery.
Prague never disappoints to be a city full of mystery, surprises, and magic. I think the Petrin Tower goes in that list, its location, how to reach it, how it looks like, and of course how it feels once reaching the tower. During the fall when leaves start falling and throughout the winter season, it is then possible to spot amazing historic buildings near the Tower.
