COFFEE TIME

Yes, it’s coffee time! Every time I visit Prague, since 2017, I’ve been going to a coffee shop in Karlin, one of the hip neighborhoods in Prague. The coffee shop is called Můj šálek kávy which means “My cup of coffee”. One of the baristas that I’ve seen working every time I go for a coffee and who has been working at the coffee shop for many years is Klara.

I remember Klara very well. Back in the fall of 2017, while I was sitting at Můj šálek kávy for almost four hours, Klara came up to me telling me respectfully that they need my table. Several clients have been waiting for a table. Without hesitation, I stood up and left.

During my last trip, in October 2022, I went again for a coffee. Who else was there? Klara. I asked Klara to interview her while she is working, and she agreed.

Me: Hi Klara, how long have you been working at Můj šálek kávy?
Klara: Almost ten years.
Me: what attracts you to working here?
Klara: The people, we are like a family.
Me: Why is this coffee shop popular in this neighborhood?
Klara: From the start, Můj šálek kávy has been offering high-quality gourmet coffee.
Me: How do you make sure you always offer high-end quality coffee?
Klara: The owners. They have direct contact with the farmers who are growing coffee in South America.
Me: What else do you offer is great quality?
Klara: The food and especially the pastries, are homemade.
Me: Thank you Klara (realizing she needs to continue working).

I agree with all that Klara said. Besides the coffee, I’ve ordered other drinks, salads, and soups. The quality is one of the best. Looking around in the coffee shop, I see many people from different professional backgrounds or nationalities, who like to hang out here, tend to sit for hours, and many sit and work on their laptops. I’ve seen people talk casually, talk about business. The atmosphere is simple, friendly, and inviting.
