The Old Town of Prague is one of the most beautiful and historic places in the world. Also known as Staré Město, the Old Town is located on the banks of the Vltava River and is home to some of the most stunning architecture and landmarks in the city.
One of the first things you’ll notice as you walk through the Old Town is the colorful, medieval buildings that line the streets. These buildings are a mix of Gothic and Baroque styles, and they’re absolutely breathtaking.
As we make our way through the Old Town, we’ll come across some of the most famous landmarks in Prague, including the Charles Bridge, which spans the Vltava River and offers some of the best views of the city. The bridge is lined with statues of saints and is a popular spot for both tourists and locals alike.
The Old Town Square is home to the famous Astronomical Clock. The clock is over 600 years old and is a masterpiece of medieval engineering. It’s definitely worth checking out the clock’s hourly show, where the clock’s figures come to life.
Every hour on the hour, a large number of people mostly tourists are already gathered around the south side of the Old Town Hall where the Astronomical clock is. Everyone is waiting with their phones and cameras, looking at the Astronomical clock. When the clock strikes the hour, a ringing sound will be heard, two small windows will open then the procession of the twelve apostles will be set in motion.
Every city in the world has a center where perhaps everything started a long time ago. Geographically that center may not necessarily be the center, but it’s perhaps from where old governments ruled, or maybe where the kings and queens or presidents resided. Or maybe it’s just the best place where people are in huge numbers gathering in that location.
The Old Town square in Prague is considered the center. It is where the Old Town Hall is. The medieval astronomical clock attached to the Old Town Hall has contributed to that. Old Town square is big and surrounded by many restaurants, shops, hotels, and Cafes.
