Blacksmiths

Prague is home to several blacksmiths who specialize in creating custom ironwork, including gates, railings, and decorative items. These blacksmiths use traditional techniques to create unique, handcrafted pieces that add character and charm to buildings and homes throughout the city.

There are many well-known blacksmiths in Prague and are regarded as the keepers of the tradition and culture. One workshop, located in the district of Břevnov, produces a variety of wrought iron products, including gates, railings, and decorative items for both residential and commercial clients.

Another blacksmith studio in the district of Smíchov focuses on the creation of bespoke metalwork, including lighting fixtures, furniture, and sculptures. He often collaborates with architects and interior designers to create pieces that perfectly suit their clients’ needs and aesthetic preferences.

Other notable blacksmiths workshop specializes in creating traditional ironwork using techniques dating back to the Middle Ages, and Jan Šerák, who creates custom ironwork for both indoor and outdoor spaces, including staircases, balconies, and garden gates.

Prague’s blacksmiths are highly skilled artisans who bring a unique and timeless quality to the city’s architecture and design. Their handcrafted ironwork adds beauty and functionality to buildings and homes throughout the city, and their work is highly valued by residents and visitors alike.

In every festival throughout the year and the seasonal markets, a blacksmith is always taking a part in the celebration, displaying their handcrafted ironwork, lighting the fire and hitting the metal the old traditional way, holding a hammer, and shaping metals. I enjoyed watching them working during my visits to the Markets, with my last one being the Spring market 2023. The cool fresh air and the Blacksmith’s fire, makes a very special and an amazing atmosphere.
