One of the most magical events in Prague is the Christmas market! People start preparing for the Christmas market around the end of the month of November or begin of December, through begin of January. 2023 will be from December 2 through January 6.
Every year, the streets of Prague come more alive with the sights, sounds, and scents of the holiday season. The Christmas market is a celebration of all things festive, with stalls selling everything from traditional Christmas decorations and gifts to delicious food and drink.
One of the highlights of the Christmas market is the giant Christmas tree that stands in the center of the market. The tree is beautifully decorated with lights and ornaments and is the perfect backdrop for holiday photos.
The largest and most crowded Christmas Market in Prague is in Old Town Square, spread around the Jan Hus Memorial near the Old Town Hall and Astronomical clock. Just a short walk from Old Town Square, is Wenceslas Square Christmas Market, which is the second biggest Christmas Market in Prague.
These markets have everything that embodies a Christmas Market spirit. They have stalls selling unique merchandise, food trucks serving up traditional Czech food, and live entertainment most nights. They are almost always full of locals and tourists looking to find some unique handicrafts to get as gifts, shopping, eating and drinking.
There are many other Christmas markets arounds Prague for example the Christmas Market at the Prague Castle, located at St. George’s Square behind the St. Vitus Cathedral. This market is surrounded by historic landmarks and incredible architecture. Another Christmas market that is located between The Old Town Christmas market and The Wenceslas Square Christmas Market, is Christmas Market at Republic Square, in front of the shopping Centre Palladium.
