The Prague Castle complex

The Prague Castle Complex is a collection of buildings, churches, and palaces that are located on a hill above the Vltava River and have been the seat of power in the Czech Republic for over a thousand years.

As you enter the complex, you’ll immediately be struck by the sheer size and grandeur of the buildings. The complex covers over 70,000 square meters and is one of the largest castle complexes in the world. Important buildings and landmarks include St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace.

One of the highlights of the Prague Castle Complex is St. Vitus Cathedral, which is the most recognizable building within the Prague Castle Complex. This stunning cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and is home to some of the most beautiful Gothic stained glass windows you’ll ever see. The cathedral is also the final resting place of a number of Czech royalty and is considered one of the most important landmarks in the country.

The Old Royal Palace, which is the oldest part of the complex and dates back to the 9th century. The palace has been home to many Czech kings and rulers over the years, and it’s a fascinating place to learn about the history of the country. The palace is now home to a museum that showcases the history of the castle complex and the city of Prague. It is also home to a number of important art collections.

The Golden Lane, a street lined with colorful, medieval houses that were once home to the castle’s archers. These houses are now open to the public and offer a glimpse into what life was like for castle residents during the 16th century.

The beautiful St. George’s Basilica, which is one of the oldest buildings in the complex and is known for its stunning architecture and impressive frescoes.

When walking along the Vltava river bank from the Old Town side, the Prague castle complex is another example of how beautiful and magical Prague is. In the evening especially, when the sun has just set, the reflection of its orange glow and the dark blue sky, the city lights, and the Vltava river reflecting these lights, is another magical masterpiece.

In my opinion, from a distance the Prague Castle complex seem like a surreal creation. Visually, the Prague Castle complex is a mystery, an extraordinary plan, as if it is a mural, a canvas perfectly painted with a beautiful backdrop that can only be done by a master who spent years creating their masterpiece.

The Prague castle complex, especially beautiful in the evening.
