The Estates Theatre is a historic theatre located in the city center of Prague. I didn’t know about that building, but one evening during one of my most recent visit to Prague, after leaving the Palladium mall , I decided to stroll through the pedestrian roads in Old Town. It was a fresh and beautiful evening, so I walked direction west, toward the Vltava river, a 20 minutes walk.
While walking on Rytirska road, I saw a beautiful classical building. I stopped to observe it. The building was oozing with freshness and charm, it felt fresh like new with its classical style. The shiny antique brass lights were like they were just made, and the dim lights were like a candle that’s slowly burning through the quiet evening.
The Estates Theatre was built in the late 18th century and opened in 1783. The theatre was commissioned by Count Franz Anton von Nostitz-Rieneck, who wanted to create a grand theatre for the people of Prague. The building is a classical masterpiece and it is to this day preserved to reflect the original condition when this beautiful building was built.
The theatre has a rich history, having hosted many notable performances over the years, it’s where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed his operas, including his premiere opera “Don Giovanni” in 1787. Other famous composers who have had their works performed at the theatre include Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and Richard Wagner.
