A clock that was installed begin of the fifteenth-century could still be working? To my amazement, yes! Why is it no surprise to me that this is another amazing thing to discover about Prague? Prague has always something magical to introduce.

The Astronomical Clock in Prague is hard to miss when walking in Old Town square. The Old Town Hall is right there in front of everyone’s eyes and the Astronomical Clock is attached to it. Without wondering where it is, look for the gathering of people, waiting patiently, holding their phones and cameras, taking pictures and videos.

The Astronomical Clock, also known as the Prague Orloj, is a medieval astronomical clock located in the Old Town Square of Prague. It is one of the oldest and most famous astronomical clocks in the world, and it attracts thousands of visitors each day.

The Astronomical Clock was installed in 1410, is the world’s oldest clock that is still working and in operation today. The roman numerals on the inside of the clock are giving an accurate time just like any digital clock. The procession of the twelve apostles will set in motion only when the clock strikes the hour from 9:00 am till 11:00 pm.

the Astronomical clock was designed by the clockmaker Mikulas of Kadan and the astronomer Jan Sindel. The clock is composed of three main components: the astronomical dial, which displays the positions of the sun and moon in the sky; the hourly clockwork, which features a parade of the 12 apostles; and the calendar dial, which shows the months of the year and the zodiac signs.
